Bring On the Bugs
by Drew DeGennaro

The pale colors that cling to the trees

like children to their mothers

will no longer exist when winter awakes

The ducks will line the edges of their homes to discuss

where they will go, returning once again when

the water beneath the lakes thaws

and the endangered fish

are hunted by people.

the bears will stop hiding

and campsites will thrive

with families not littering

and the light

will fight for freedom

heat will bring the bugs

the summer will take rule

for some months

the days will seem to last forever.
